Lets Craft!

Cricut Design Space has hundreds of images available for use, some free of charge while others costing a couple dollars. However, if you’re anything like me, all these images and options still aren’t enough and you want to be able to cut anything you want! Here we’re going to show you step by step how to upload virtually any image to Design Space.

First thing you’re going to do is go to New Project.

step 1

Once you’re on this screen click Upload.

step 2

From here you’ll see two options, Upload Image or Upload Pattern. Click on Upload Image.

step 3

Find the image you want to upload on your computer and click Open.

step 4

Your image will appear along with three different options to choose from for image type. Our image is pretty basic so we are going to upload as a Simple Image but if your image has more detail or low contrast between colors you are going to want to upload using the Moderately Complex or Complex image. Hit Continue.

step 5

Once you hit continue your image will appear on this screen. YOU ARE NOT DONE YET. Using your Select & Erase tool you’re going to click on the part of the image you want to be cut out. Think of the pieces of the image you would want to weed and using your mouse click on the pieces to get rid of them.

step 6

As you click the pieces of the image you want to be cut out your image will start to look like this, with a checkered background in the areas that you have removed. Once you’ve removed all the pieces hit Continue.

step 7

Your next screen will look like this. You will have the option to save this as a print then cut image or as a cut image. Remember, print then cut will need to first be print out on a printer then be cut out on your Cricut. We want to save our image as a cut image NOT a print then cut. Your image will cut exactly as it looks like on this screen. If your image does not look exactly how you want it to be cut out you do have the option to go back and edit it some more. If it looks how you want it to cut, give your image a name then hit Save.

step 8

Once you hit Save it will take you back to this screen. You will see your image in your Recently Uploaded. That’s it! That’s all there is to it! You will be able to go to Images on your left side bar and find all your Uploaded images there.

If this was helpful to you please feel free to share it with your friends and leave us a comment on what you’d like to see next!

Happy crafting!

First of all that’s great advice! Second do you know how to upload images and designs from an iPhone to cricut design space? That’s what I’m working with until I get a laptop.

When you upload an image, is there a way to make different parts different colors? I have been uploading things 2 and 3 times, keeping different parts each upload to then color them in the layers tab. Just wondering if there was an easier way
